Promotional Items: How to Design a Great-Looking Calendar

One way to make promotional items more effective is to make them more fun.

Happy New Year! As successful as 2018 was for your business, it’s time to get 2019 off to a hot start as well. When you’re thinking about the promotional items to create for your business this year, consider printing some calendars. Here are some tips for designing a beautiful-looking promotional calendar for this year and beyond.

Arrange Themes for Each Month

Every month on your calendar should have a different theme. After all, one way to make promotional items more effective is to make them more fun. Besides playing with what each month is typically associated with, think about what you want to achieve in each month, based on what your business does. You don’t need to overthink it either: don’t hesitate to attach more than one theme or goal to each month, especially if there are different holidays in the month, or you want to be more ambitious this year than you were last year.

Consider Different Holidays

Holidays, observances, and special events happen all year long. Although we typically talk about the holiday season running from the end of October until New Year’s Day, you can still theme your calendars around the different holidays that happen each month, and highlight important celebrations from other cultures so that you don’t make many potential customers feel excluded.

Use Other Marketing Strategies

Calendars make for amazing promotional items. You can include the dates and times of special sales, flash events, and promotional occasions, especially if celebrities, authors, and athletes are coming to visit and interact with their fans! Reward your customers with free membership cards or punch cards that give them an incentive to become repeat customers: For instance, provide them with this offer: buy nine cups of coffee, get the tenth free. Pens, mugs, and t-shirts are inexpensive promotional items that you can give away and give your customers a reason to remember your business the next time they need a service or product that you provide.

Pick a Calendar Style

One last bit of advice for designing promotional items has to do with picking the calendar itself. You’ve got think about how big it needs to be, the types of fonts and images you want to use, and the right paper stock to ensure it survives while hanging on a wall for the next year or two. Do you want additional design touches, such as die cuts, foil embossing, and wire binding? You’ll need to take these flourishes into account too.
